Batteries have one incredible talent.
They never die when it’s convenient.
The TV remote works perfectly for three months. Then, right before the biggest game of the year, it suddenly decides it’s finished.
The smoke detector?
It waits until exactly 3:07 in the morning.
Not 3:00.
Not 3:15.
3:07.
Just enough time for everyone in the house to wake up confused, stumble into the hallway, and start looking at the ceiling like detectives solving a crime.
Your wireless mouse always has plenty of battery… until you’re in the middle of an important meeting. Suddenly the cursor stops moving, and you’re clicking the mouse like it personally betrayed you.
Then comes the battery drawer.
Every house has one.
It’s full of AA, AAA, C, D, rechargeable batteries, mystery batteries, and at least three that have no label left.
You pick up one.
It feels heavy.
That’s a good sign.
You put it in the remote.
Nothing.
You flip it around.
Still nothing.
You try another one.
Success!
Now you’re convinced you’ve developed a supernatural ability to judge battery life by weight.
Of course, the dead batteries never make it to the recycling bin.
They stay in the drawer “just in case.”
Just in case of what?
Nobody knows.
But throwing them away somehow feels like giving up on them too soon.
Maybe batteries aren’t dying.
Maybe they’re simply taking early retirement…
At the exact moment you need them most.
